A Little Spark In Grey Monsoon

Are you loving the monsoon season? Its been a week since monsoon have arrived in South travelling  to Mumbai and other regions. It is such a visual treat to witness the sky going from bright blue to pale orange yellow and then grey. Grey seems to be the color of the season, at least for next three to four months. While I personally adore the grey color and I know quite a few who like it too, the monsoon grey does become gloomy after sometime. No? I definitely feel it does. After a few weeks of enjoying monsoon, we tend to postpone things, because the 'lethargy' begins to set in. It is helpless to see our green friend getting over watered. A little bit of water everywhere or the dampness in the touch. The never drying laundry and that smell of wet things are few that I can sense as I write this.

We, the 'homo sapiens' are capable of doing anything with our psychology and I want to tell you my dear friends that there are so many ways one can do to overcome the greyness. Did you know each different color possess different form of  energy and are capable of evoking mood and vibes. If in doubt, go google the color wheel and see how instantly the mood changes. Colors can make us happy or sad, anxious or relaxed. The emotion attached to each color is deeply rooted in our psychology. The hues of Red, Yellow, Blue, the primary ones will uplift the mood and are deeply recommended in combination with the grey environment.

I would like to give you few tips and tricks to 'Add a spark to the grey monsoon'.

Before
After

When you know the monsoon season is around the corner, start with de-cluttering your home. Review what is important to keep outside and rest can be secured and kept in storages and wardrobes. Its a feel good factor when you see clear and clean spaces. This will clear up your thoughts and make way for creating a new ambience.

If you have double drapery curtains switch to a single sheer  curtain so you can enjoy the breeze touching the thinner sheers and enjoy the slow movement of the fabric inwards and outwards.
Change your bed sheets to light weighted fabrics. I would  suggest you to go with floral and tropical while changing the  fabric.
This will evoke the sense of touch, feel and sight.

Take out all the colorful cushions, decorative pieces, which you had once kept aside, because it did not match your interiors. Arrange them in any order. Choose the bright shades over pastel and nudes. Here, you can also bring in really colorful blooming flowers and put them in a vase. Spread a little bit of each item here and there so there is a bit of color pouring all over the place. Imagine a splash of colors on a grey canvas - that's how good it is going to look!

The smaller plants outside the window, that are getting over watered, can be lifted and arranged linearly on the window sill. They will get enough wind and light and you can water them as per their requirement. So no more excess watering and in addition it brings in the instant freshness and color to your room. When you are closer to nature, you tend to feel better and think organically.

Sometimes artificial plants and stems can play an equivalent role. You can complete your vases with some really colorful stems. You can even grow your own greens. Cut single stems say from a money plant and put in a glass jar with water and place it in areas like kitchen, bathrooms and corners which unintentionally are neglected areas. They are somewhat a permanent and least maintenance solution to empty and corner areas. With this you can make your less illuminated spaces more colorful and meaningful.

Procure different forms, shapes, types and color of candles and try to place them at each area along side other decors. Also if you can have scented candles it would further uplift your mood or you can combine the candles and incense together. The idea is to create a lighting scheme different from usual lights. You can also have a combination of fairy lights on the window and candles. Can you believe it evokes the five senses all together. Don't ask me how. Do it and see it, and if you can, Thank me later!! Giggles!

Add wind chimes on curtain rods or at a place where wind can reach the clapper and the tubes. Sound is the best therapy for uplifting mood and sometimes these wind chimes are soulfully pleasing.
This weather brings in a lot of water and mud once you come from outside and I am sure none of us likes to get the muddy water inside. I would suggest you to invest in a really quirky piece like a stand or umbrella box that will keep the water at the corner and is also not like a typical boring basket.

I love the floor seating or the low seating areas. These seating style is getting back in trend because a little whimsical place makes you feel cozy, connected and loved. You can make a little corner in your existing room with lot of cushions and throws. Try to include as many colors as you want and as many textures you like. The best part of these spaces are that there are no defined rules to make these cozy places. Throw anything and everything around it and I bet it will lit up. Use lights and lanterns to enhance the cozy country side feels.

Generally, people paint their homes once the rainy season is over. But. just in case you plan to do any paint, try highlighting a wall with bright color or put a good wallpaper or some paint in pattern. You can also add some colorful painting and plates to an empty wall.

I think if you use the above mentioned tips, it will make a difference to the overall grey environment. These changes are little but they make a significant difference in creating a happy ambience and believe me, you will be bored with the monsoon but not with the decor. When we can, why not dress our home according to the season, like, how we do.

Make a bit of changes in your home and tell me in the comment section how did it change your mood.

See you next time!
